New Shades Of the Departed Magazine Issue Published!

Three More Genealogy Blogs Added

I've added three more genealogy blogs to the list of genealogy blogs. The blogs added are:

• Genealogy for German Lutherans In Suwalki Province
• The Organized Genealogist
• Reflections From the Fence

The learned about the latter two genealogy blogs from Randy Seaver's post, and I found the German Lutheran blog from an internet search. While I look forward to reading posts from all three blogs, I am especially interested in the blog on the Suwalki Germans primarily because I believe my German ancestors from the Russian Empire came from the Suwalki Province. 

Any suggestions for additional genealogy or history blogs are always welcome. Enjoy!

Genealogy Blogs I Have Recently Added

I had not added any genealogy blogs to the list I keep in a long time, and earlier today, I seven more blogs. A few of the blogs I learned about from GeneaBloggers and Randy Seaver's Best of the Genea-Blogs Series, and for the other blogs, I either learned about them through a couple of these new genealogy blogs.

I Haven't Posted Too Much Lately ...

As you probably have noticed, I haven't posted at all in the past several days. Part of the reason for not posting has been due to the fact that I have been busy taking care of stuff for graduate school in the fall. In addition, there have been a days where I haven't felt like posting although I have about four to five backlogged posts that I want to write. Of course, I plan to post these articles as soon as possible.

As for the Trippstadt, Germany death records, I'll have to wait a couple of weeks before I post an article on them as I am still waiting for another microfilm of those records to arrive. I still plan to do a post on the records, although I don't know when I'll get around to it.

Even though I haven't posted too much lately, I have added several genealogy blogs and a history blog in the past several months. A couple of the blogs I learned about from other genealogy blog posts, but I have mostly learned about genealogy blogs from the followers application and technocrati website. Unfortunately, I do not remember all of the blogs I have added in the past several months, so I really can't provide a listing of the blogs. Oops! I Forgot To Post My Thoughts ...

A few days ago, I posted an article and links on postmortem photos, but I forgot to add something. Well, I forgot to include my thoughts on this topic. My apologies to those who were disappointed.

So, what are my thoughts about postmortem photographs? Well, postmortem photographs have struck me as a bit surreal and creepy. I know I did read somewhere else about postmortem photos before footnoteMaven posted her articles on the subject, but I can't remember where or when I read it. The only postmortem photograph that I have seen in my family was a picture of an infant taken sometime in the 1910s. I knew the infant was dead because he was lying in his casket in the photograph. Of course, I also knew who it was from what my grandma had told me. When I first looked at that photograph, it was surreal to me. I could have easily mistaken the baby for a doll, if it were not for the fact that the baby was in the coffin. (Well, the baby was small, so that's why I almost mistook it to be a doll.) Of course, one does not expect to find postmortem photos in their family collections, so it would be very easy for someone to want to believe the deceased was not real. I obviously was not prepared to see a picture of that type, the first time I saw that photo.

None the less, the photograph struck me as hauntingly beautiful in the way all of the objects were arranged in the picture.
